A Bread Bake Sale

“We had a bread sale along with our offering. We sent the proceeds to Bread for the World to help with future lobbying efforts.”

Gloria / Baldwin, WI

At the Student Center

“We had a table in the student center all week for those who wanted to write letters to their members of Congress. We generated a lot of letters and interest. We look forward to helping the movement grow on our campus.”

Melissa / Asbury Seminary, FL

Getting the Kids Involved

“While parents were writing, we gave the children paper plates printed with, “Dear Senator Schumer, Please vote for the One Spirit campaign! Your friend, ______.’ The kids colored and decorated these plates, adding food illustrations. We mailed these plates along with the parents’ letters. The kids loved being included… even the tiny tykes.”

Mary M. / Washington Mills, NY

John Chapter 6

“We planned our Offering of Letters to coincide with a sermon on Chapter 6 of John. I preached about physical and spiritual hunger, and put a basket in our narthex where congregants could place their letters. Our young adults were very pleased to see us engaging in social justice issues.”

Sent in by Doyle in Jefferson City, MO.

On the Church Bulletin Board

“We took the photos, statistics and sample letter from the Offering of Letters kit and posted them around our church to raise awareness of hunger and poverty issues.”

Katherine / Waco, TX

“With an estimated 925 million people suffering from hunger worldwide, the immediate attention of the churches is critically needed.

I implore American Christians to ‘give us this day’ by sending letters to members of Congress asking them to focus our foreign assistance programs on efforts to overcome hunger and poverty.”

Rev. Dr. Bernice Powell Jackson
President for North America
World Council of Churches
