Foreign Assistance Reform Bill to Overhaul Aid Programs

E-mail Print

On April 28, Rep. Howard Berman (D-CA-28) and Rep. Mark Kirk (R-IL-10) submitted a bipartisan bill to the House Foreign Affairs Committee that starts the process of overhauling U.S. foreign assistance.

The Initiating Foreign Assistance Reform Act of 2009 or H. R. 2139, calls on President Obama to develop a national strategy for global development.

H.R. 2139 is an initial step to fully reforming U.S. foreign assistance to better meet both 21s century challenges and the needs of hungry and poor people. A strong list of bipartisan cosponsors is the best way to show support for the bill.

“As people of faith we are called to show compassion, love kindness, and do justice.

When we doubt our place in the political process, we need only recall the words of Jesus appealing to people to care for the common good."
